The oldest of three children, Joy was born to William and Hilda Robson in Blackhill, Durham County, England on July 1, 1942. She was married to John George Allinson on October 8, 1960. Together they raised two children, Gary, and Glen Lee Allinson. Joy was also grandmother to twin boys, Bon and Jon Ian Allinson. John, Joy, and their children came to the United States in 1972. They settled in Richlands, Virginia where John pursued a career in the mining industry and Joy later opened a women’s clothing store. Joy had a passion for good food and cooking. She enjoyed sharing meals, good wine, conversation, and laughs with family and friends. In 2018, six years after the passing of her husband, Joy moved to Alabama to be closer to her sons.
Joy is survived by her children Gary and Glen (Sandra), grandchildren Bon and Jon, siblings Christine Morgan (John) and William “Billy” Robson (Bernadette), nephew Paul Morgan and nieces Shauna Dean, Emma Atkinson, Lucy Robson-Hillary, and Rebekka Robson. Joy is predeceased by parents William and Hilda, husband John, and nephew Lee Robson.
A celebration of Joy’s life will be held on July 1, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Cahaba Ridge Retirement Community, 3090 Healthy Way, Birmingham, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joy’s memory to The DCH Foundation for the Homer & Harold McAbee Cancer Fund, 809 University Boulevard, East, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
