Bishop, Mrs. Judith Hinton, age 74, of Birmingham, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Judy was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Howard Oliver Hinton on July 12, 1940 in Tuscaloosa, AL. She grew up in DeFuniak Springs, FL and graduated from Walton County High School. In 1962, she received a BS in Home Economics from the University of Alabama. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. While at Alabama, she met her husband, E. Glenn Bishop. Judy and Glenn were married in 1962. Judy was an active member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She was also a member of The Charity League and became a Senior Sustainer. Judy was a partner in Bishop Clark Enterprises that published Alabama History education materials. She volunteered her time at EPIC School and M-POWER and supported the Brother Bryan Mission. She was also very involved in The End of the Bend garden club and the Alpha Chi alumni. Judy was a talented artist and seamstress, loved to garden, and dance the bop with Glenn, but most of all she loved Glenn and her family. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and friends at Seagrove Beach. If you met Judy then you were a friend of Judy’s. She was a graceful, happy, welcoming, unselfish, and especially loving mother, wife, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Judy is survived by her husband, Glenn Bishop, and their three children, Win Bishop (Tracy) and Cindy Doody (John) of Birmingham, and Elizabeth Bennett (Matt) of Nashville, and her brother Dr. Andrew Hinton (Mary Catherine) of Pensacola. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Courtney and Hinton Bishop, Margaret and Laura Doody, and Olivia and Matthew Bennett.
The family suggests that any donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
