Mona was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Calvin C. Crow, and her grandson, Riley Walden Scruggs. She is survived by her daughter, Jan Crow Scruggs (Dale), her grandchildren John Scruggs (Bobbi) and Julieta Scruggs, and her great-grandchildren Charlotte and Jacob Scruggs.
Mona was a lifelong learner. She graduated from Dothan High School and then received a degree from Huntington College (Montgomery, AL) in 1946 in Biology. While in graduate school, she taught at Huntington and then Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University). At one time, she was the only Genetics professor at Auburn. Later, she became a substitute teacher and loved developing relationships with the Junior High and High School students.
Mona was an avid member of the American Volkssport Association and walked a total of 7817 kilometers (4857 miles). She loved the outdoors, particularly hiking in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee and collecting shells along the beaches of Alabama and Florida. While in her fifties and sixties, she hiked to the top of Mount Leconte in Gatlinburg, TN (twice) and bought a motorcycle.
Mona was a loving mother and grandmother who found her greatest joy in her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
