OBITUARY

Michael Steven Cowart

5 December, 1951 – 13 February, 2019
IN THE CARE OF

Southern Heritage Funeral Home & Cemetery

Michael Steven Cowart of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away Feb. 13, 2019 at the age of 67, after a long, hard fought battle to cancer.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Orville Cowart, and a brother, Gary Cowart. Survivors include Steve's mother, Rachel A. Cowart of Huntsville, Alabama; his son, Banks Cowart (Niki); grandson Levi; brothers, Lary B. Cowart (Cyndy) and Pat Cowart (Maureen); sisters, Larise Hennessee (Terry) and Ruby Mason (Perry); and many nieces and nephews.

Steve grew up in Huntsville in a house full of brothers and sisters where there was always a lot of love, chaos, and mischief. Youth league sports, fun on the farm with cousins, 4th of July on Monte Sano Mountain, and just playing in the neighborhood with friends, brothers, and sisters were some of his fondest memories. He loved sports, especially college football and basketball. He was an excellent cook and everyone in the family looked forward to his homemade cheesecakes at Thanksgiving and Christmas. He never disappointed with his awesome dishes. He was a favorite of all of his little nieces and nephews. He just had a special way with them.

Steve enjoyed a successful career in Birmingham, where he developed long-lasting friendships with great people all over the country. These relationships were very dear to him. But most of all, Steve loved his family. He was a proud and dedicated father and grandfather, a good son, and a loving brother who could always be counted on when you needed him. He lived a good life.

A family service will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 23, 2019.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
