He was born in Waco, Texas, on September 18, 1940, to the late Jessie Payne and William Henry McCown. Michael is also preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Ann McCown-Kane, and his brother, William Henry McCown, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 38 years, Jimmie Lee Salter McCown; his children, Michael W. McCown, Jr. (Johnetta); Patrick K. McCown (Sandra); Christy Haynie; and Ashley McCown-Mize (Jeremy); along with 12 grandchildren, Casey, Chris, Leann, Jennifer, Danielle, Heather, Ryan, Tyler, Peyton, Chase, Noah, and Bentley. He is also survived by his brother, Milton McCown (Betsy), and his sister-in-law, Linda McCown.
Michael worked for the Executive Protection Services branch of Secret Services from 1969-1973. After moving to Birmingham, he was the Production Manager for Home Baking Company, where he worked for over 25 years until his retirement.
Michael was gifted creatively and enjoyed woodworking and painting. He also loved to play dominos and cards. However, his greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama, on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at 2:00 pm. The service will be live-streamed via Southern Heritage's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SouthernHeritageFuneral. Visitation and reception to follow the service.
