

Mr. Barber was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Barber, and mother, Lucille Dykes Barber, of Moultrie, Georgia; and his wife of over 50 years, Douglas Pittman Barber.
A graduate of Moultrie High School, where he was a star athlete in football and basketball, Mr. Barber received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserves in Columbus, Mississippi.
Mr. Barber began his professional career as a stockbroker in Columbus, Georgia. He was then hired by Pfizer Inc. Before his retirement from Pfizer, Mr. Barber had a 37-year career with the pharmaceutical company, mostly as District Sales Manager for the Southeast Region.
A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, he loved deeply and had an eternal impact on his family, friends and colleagues.
Mr. and Mrs. Barber were members of Mountain Brook Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama for over 50 years, during which time they raised their family in the church and were actively involved in the church’s ministries at all levels. Mr. Barber especially enjoyed his Sunday School class and was a faithful member.
Mr. Barber was also an active member of Vestavia Country Club, where he was an avid golfer and exerciser for many years. He was also a longstanding member of Shades Valley Rotary Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Catherine D. Barber of River Vale, New Jersey and husband, Joseph Tjan; son, M. Dykes Barber, Jr. and former wife, Tara Sazera Barber; and five grandchildren, Taylor Elizabeth Barber, Hannah Douglas Elizabeth Barber, Monroe Dykes “Bo” Barber III, Isabella Catherine Tjan, and Gisele Carolina Tjan.
A Service of Remembrance will be Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, AL 35124.
