Nancy Cargo Worthington, age 70, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in the early hours of Saturday, September 6, 2025. Born on December 28, 1954, in Birmingham, AL to Sam and Nannie Cargo, Nancy lived a life full of love, grace, and devotion to her family.
She graduated from the University of Alabama and, for a period of time, worked as a schoolteacher before dedicating herself fully to her home and family.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband, Allan Worthington, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage; daughter Allison Gooch and her husband Burton; son Justin Worthington; and three cherished grandchildren, Coleson, Maggie, and Claire Gooch. She is also survived by her brother, Sam Cargo.
Nancy loved her family with passion. Her joy was found in being with them, supporting them, and praying for them. It is an understatement that she will be deeply missed here on earth, but heaven is surely rejoicing in her arrival.
Above all, Nancy loved God with her entire heart. At the age of 13, she accepted Christ as her Savior, and from that moment forward she lived a life of faith — witnessing, teaching, and encouraging others to know God as she did. There are countless people following Christ today because of Nancy’s influence. She was everyone’s best friend, always ready to listen, to share wise counsel, and to encourage with a loving heart.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Briarwood Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Wellhouse at The-Wellhouse.org.
