Pat was born on February 13, 1943, in Macon, Georgia; she lived her entire childhood in Childersburg, Alabama. She graduated from Childersburg High School and continued her education through graduation from St. Margaret’s School of Nursing in Montgomery, Alabama, where she met several of her lifelong friends. Pat lived the next 60 years in Montgomery, where she held a variety of nursing positions throughout her career. She retired in 2013 from her role as Nursing Administrator at the Montgomery County Health Department, after more than 20 years of distinguished service to public health.
After her retirement, Pat enjoyed playing bridge, reading, going to the casino, doing crossword puzzles, getting together with nursing friends and neighbors, and serving the HOA in her neighborhood. Pat’s ideal day was spent reading on her porch with her treasured Yorkie, Coco, by her side. She took great pleasure in all things intellectual and was known for her quick wit.
Pat is survived by her three children: Kim Presley (husband Tommy) of Church Hill, Tennessee; Brent Brookhyser (wife Leigh) of Chesterfield, Missouri; and Misti Steed (husband Bill) of Birmingham, Alabama. She is also survived by six grandchildren who were the prides of her life: Morgan, Kendall, Olivia, Colin, Lauren, and Emily. Pat is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Palmer. She is survived by her sister Deborah Wright (husband Johnny) and by her niece Courtney West (husband Brandon).
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Ann Vivian Ray and Jimmie Ray.
In honor of Pat’s wishes, there will be a private family gathering. Any gifts in memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at donorservices.alz.org.
