

She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 28,1936. Rachel Graduated from The University of Louisville with an undergraduate degree in psychology and later received a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Alabama.
She was married to Lucius “Mac” Polhill, Jr on March 1,1958.
Rachel had a career in publishing and education for many years with Ebsco Media and the University of Montevallo where she was Head Reference Librarian.
Rachel attended Asbury United Methodist Church where she was an active member. Rachel’s devoted and loving outreach through the women’s ministry, bible study and service on the pastor’s prayer chain contributed greatly to the spiritual strength of her church and community.
Rachel was an active member of the association of University Women, and a member of the North Shelby County Library Board and President of her college sorority, Sigma Kappa
Rachel was a person of great faith in God. She was a devoted mother to her two sons and a devoted wife to her deceased husband Mac, for whom she cared through many years during a difficult illness.
Rachel is survived by her two sons, Lucius “Chip” Polhill (husband of Allison Polhill) of Pacific Palisades, California and Paul Franklin Polhill (husband of Lisa Polhill) of Birmingham, Alabama. Rachel was also a loving grandmother to five grandchildren, Taylor, Alexander, Elizabeth, Lucy and Carter Polhill.
Funeral will be held Friday, March 6 at 11:00 AM at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, Alabama. Guests will be greeted up to an hour prior. Catered buffet lunch will follow at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Rachel Polhill Memorial Fund of Asbury United Methodist Church, Birmingham, Alabama.
