A former resident of Danberry Assisted Living in Hoover, AL, Rex Pyron was born May 30, 1920 in Guin, AL to Dalton Draper Pyron and M. Ethel Riley Pyron. He went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, March 4, 2014.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. The funeral will be the same day at 2 p.m. in Ridout’s Southern Heritage Chapel, Pelham, and burial will follow in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
Mr. Pyron had been a resident of Calera, AL and Chelsea, AL. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing with his dog Angel, and watching Alabama football. He will always be remembered for making people laugh, having a heart of gold, and being a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Pyron was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II, serving his country in Honolula, HI and San Diego, CA. After a long career at U.S. Steel, he retired and moved to Homosassa Springs, FL. Later he returned to Calera, AL, where he was a member of Calera Baptist Church.
Mr. Pyron was preceded in death by his father, mother, and the love of his life for 72 years, his wife Florence Stanford Pyron.
Survivors include daughter Sandra Fontaine and her husband Michael, daughter Lonita Hilliard and her husband Donald, and son, Richard A. Pyron and his wife Connie, all of North Shelby County, AL; and son Ronald H. Pyron and his wife Leighann of St. Petersburg, FL.
Survivors also include grandchildren, Scott A. Smith, Ashley Smith, Martin Hilliard, Kristen H. Bagwell (Brian), Gregory Pyron, Zachary Pyron, Alan Pyron (Jane), and Haley P. Kegel (Sebastian); and great-grandchildren, Kailey Pyron, Ally Pyron, Lane Pyron, London Bagwell, and Rex Bagwell.
Mr. Pyron's two surviving brothers are O. Wayne Pyron (Joyce) and Robert Dalton Pyron (Gloria).
