Robert (Gene) E. Holmes

Robert (Gene) E Holmes passed away on Saturday August 31, 2019. Gene was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama but resided in Helena, Alabama. He graduated from Phillips High School and attended UAB. Before attending UAB, he joined the Navy where he was in active duty and also the reserves. He worked for Handy TV and Appliance for 23 years. He was a long time member of ACIPCO Baptist where he was a Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of South Roebuck Baptist Church and more recently Hunter Street Baptist Church where he was a part the Joyful singers. Gene was a Mason and Shriner. He was also the President of the Birmingham City Sales Club and a Lion's Club Member.

He is preceded in death by his parents; William Oliver Holmes and Margaret Marie Whittle; brothers, Oliver Holmes III and Alan Holmes; sisters, Laurene Braden and Gwen Dawson; one great-grandson, Zachary Redmond.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cynthia Holmes; daughters, Kimberly Redmond (Wesley) of Birmingham, AL and Melony Brasher (John) of Boiling Springs, SC; grandchildren, Tyler Redmond (Madison) of Hoover, AL, Rachel Redmond of New Orleans, LA, Sarah Redmond of Birmingham, AL, Brandon Brasher and Justin Brasher of Boiling Springs, SC; great-grandchildren, Colton and Mae Rose Redmond of Hoover, AL and Charlotte Neblett of New Orleans, LA.

A visitation for Gene will be held at Hunter Street Baptist Church, 2600 John Hawkins Pkwy, Hoover, Alabama 35244, on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 1:00 pm followed by a service at 2:00 pm officiated by Dr. Buddy Gray. A Graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.
