

LOTT, III, BRIG. GENERAL, (RET.) ROBERT LEE, COACH BOBBY LOTT Bobby Lott passed away Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the age of 85. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Riverchase United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. A military graveside burial service will follow at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Cemetery in Pelham, AL He was born March 29, 1927, to his parents, Robert L. Lott, Jr. and Em Agee Mattison Lott in Birmingham where he was a resident for most of his life. Mr. Lott was a graduate of Woodlawn High School where he played football and baseball. He was inducted into the Woodlawn High School Hall of Fame in 1980. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he served during World War II. Mr. Lott graduated from Howard College, (Samford), in 1949, where he played football. He also holds a Masters Degree and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) Degree from the University of Alabama. He started his coaching career in 1949 with stops at Fayetteville, Hubbertville, Hamilton, and Banks High School. His sixteen year head coaching record in football was 116-36-8. Coach Lott was elected into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2005, the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame in 1996, and the Fayette County Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. After completing 20 years of coaching, he entered school administration as Principal of Hemphill Elementary School and Ensley High School. He was also Executive Director of the National Education Center and retired in 1992, serving 43 years in education. Mr. Lott accepted a commission as a Second Lt. in the 877 Engineering Battalion in the Alabama National Guard. He commanded the 1343 Engineering Battalion, 1169 Engineering Group, the Alabama Military Academy and the 31 Sp. Armor Brigade. He retired in 1981 with 29 years of service as a Brigadier General. He was a former member of Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church for 35 years, and presently a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Birmingham Touchdown Club, Hoover Country Club, Hoover Veterans Committee, and received the Hoover 2008 Freedom Award. Mr. Lott was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Duncan Lott, and his four sons, Randy (Glenda), Ricky (Rebecca), of Birmingham, Duncan "Bubba" (Karen) of Booneville, MS, and Gary (Melody) of Atlanta, GA, and his sister, Nancy L. Barclift, of Florence, AL. Mr. Lott's grandchildren include: Jennifer (Charles) Dowling, Jamie (Matt) Wilson, Casey (Amanda) Lott, Bryce (Amanda) Lott, Zane Lott, Andy (Sara) Lott, Stephanie (Robert) Ozols, and Abbie Lott. His great grandchildren include: Kailey Lott, Vivian Dowling, Britton Wilson, Cade Lott, Cohen Lott, Addie Lott, and Lily Lott.
