Ron Larkin

LARKIN, RONALD JESSE Ronald Jesse Larkin. Visitation for Ronald Jesse Larkin, 78, of Hoover, AL, will be held at 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday January 4th at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 5th at 11:00 a.m. with Father Thomas Kelly officiating. Mr. Larkin went to be with his heavenly Father January 1, 2013. He was born on June 15, 1934 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Jesse and Elda Larkin. He was a very special man and a great husband, father, and grandfather. After a lifetime career at AT&T, he devoted his retirement years to volunteer service at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. In addition he will be remembered for the many years he served as an adult literacy teacher with the Birmingham Baptist Association. He never lost his love of jazz music or his native home, New Orleans, and delighted in showing visitors the sights around his hometown. He is survived by a brother, Kenneth Larkin (Darlene) of Belle Chasse, LA; two children, Rhonda Mayfield (Truman) of Tallahassee, FL, Meredith Baker (Bob) of Springfield, TN; and four grandchildren, Cody Baker, Larkin Mayfield, Gavin Mayfield, and Cole Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 39 years, Alice Faye Larkin. The family would like to give their sincere thanks to his caregivers, Valerie Richards of Big Bend Hospice and the staff at Sterling House.
