

SAMUEL MAL HILL, III, age 71, died on October 12, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilynn, and his parents, Samuel Mal Hill, Jr. and Joan Eleanor Hill. Sam served in the US Navy and later attended Georgia Tech University; he graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a degree in Civil Engineering. An active member of Central Alabama Mensa, he was currently treasurer, past-president and past vice-president. He was a volunteer at Aldridge Gardens and had an avid interest in classical music, history, and computers. Sam was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church, Past Master at Hewitt North Birmingham Masonic Lodge #519, a member of the Knights of St Andrews, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, a member of KCCH, and Past Patron of Ruth Chapter #3, Order of the Eastern Star.
Sam is survived by his sister, Dorothy Hill McClurg; good friends Steve and LeAnne Porter; stepdaughters Lois Dorough (Joe) of Tuscaloosa, Nancy Hendricks, Sharon Ammons (Jeff), Christine Schloz (Jack) of Houston, TX; and stepson, Dwight Evans (Ann) of Buford, GA. He had a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 16, at 2:00 PM, with visitation at 1:00. Burial following at Southern Heritage Cemetery, The Rev. Joe Slane officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Aldridge Gardens or the charity of your choice.
