Samuel Murl Mitchell, age 68, passed away due to natural causes on Saturday August 9th. He was born in Marieta, Georgia and moved to Birmingham at a young age. Sam was a proud Veteran of the Vietnam war where he was a Navy Corpsman. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal during his service. In 1988 he suffered a stroke which left him paralyzed on his right side. This did not stop him from traveling as he loved to do. He was able to see so much of this great country throughout his life. He is survived by his son Chris Mitchell and his two grandchildren Dominic Mitchell and Giavanna Mitchell. His ex-wife was with him until the end. May he be whole again in the Kingdom of Heaven. Visitation will be held Wednesday August 9th at Southern Heritage Funeral Home from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and the Graveside Service will be at The Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo on Friday, August 15th at 2:00pm.
