

DAY, STEPHEN JOSEPH, SR., age 95, of Hoover, Alabama passed away Friday, January 25, 2013. He was born and reared in New York and enjoyed 45 happy years in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was a charter member of the Cherokee Town & Country Club. Steve served in the Army Air Corps during WWII before enjoying a successful business career with the Celotex Corporation. He later retired from the Jim Walter Corporation as National Sales Manager and Consultant. Steve was adored by family and friends. He had many interests, including golf, nature, fly fishing, hunting, musical instruments, photography, anything mechanical, and computers. He had an optimistic outlook on life with continued interest in all people and things around him. He had a charming wit and thoroughly enjoyed following his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities. Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth F. Day, and one sister, Rose Rubino. Survivors include one daughter, Karen D. Adams (Robert); two sons, Stephen J. Day, Jr. and Dr. John P. Day (Cindy); grandchildren, Tad Adams (Terri), Tara Mason (Robert), Ashley Day (Bijan), Jenna Day, John Day II (Emily), Joshua Day, and Michael Day; and great-grandchildren, Kate, Kristin, Kara, Zachary, Evan, Nico, Ella, and Toby. The family will visit with friends from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. On Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Birmingham, Alabama, visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Mass. Burial, Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church or Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
