

Terry Floyd Sanders, age 67, passed away on March 31, 2014. Terry grew up in Bessemer, Alabama. He graduated from Bessemer High School in 1964, attended Snead Jr. College, Jacksonville State University and the University of Alabama, receiving his MA degree in Vocational Education, Bus. Adm., Ed Administration and Superintendency Ed.
Terry was married to Deborah Basenberg Sanders of Hanceville, AL in 1972. He was a longtime member of Helena United Methodist Church, holding various positions, including Chairman of the Administrative Board for several terms. He retired from the Jefferson County Board of Education having served as vocational teacher at W. A. Berry H.S. (1970-1977), Assistant Principal/Principal at Leeds High School (1977-1984), Greenwood Junior High School (1984-1990), Pleasant Grove High School (1990-1995), and Greenwood Elementary School (1995-2000), concluding a total service career of 32 years.
Terry is survived by his wife, Debbie Basenberg Sanders; sons, Shane Sanders (Shannon) of Calera, AL and Wade Sanders (Jodi) of Alabaster, AL; four grandchildren, Kendall , Harper, Rowan, and Eliza; mother, Mrs. Troy W. Sanders (Azilee Hankins Sanders) of Bessemer, AL; sister, Kay Sanders Ryan (Jerry Ryan) of Birmingham, AL; three nephews, Barry Ryan (Donna) of Gadsden, AL, Brad Ryan (Jenny) of Springville, AL and Andy Ryan of Bay Minette, AL; and nine great nieces and nephews.
The funeral Service will be at 10am on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Helena United Methodist Church. The service will be concluded at the church, with the graveside for family only. Officiating will be ministers Rev. Reid Crotty and Dr. Rev Micky Morgan. Pall Bearers will be Terry Doty, Shane Sanders, Wade Sanders, Barry Ryan, Brad Ryan and Andy Ryan. Honorary bearers will be Billy Dean Harris, Billy Hines, Joe Eversole, Bob Chapman, Mike Zadrozny, John Garvin, Frank Green, Mike Flynn, Wiley Thompson and King Thatenhurst.
The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Mr. Sanders may be made to The Big Oak Ranch.
