

Mac served his country in the U.S. Army as an officer in the 750th Field Artillery. He was named an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Aide de Camp in the Alabama State Militia and was a Life Member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.
Mac graduated with the Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Southern Mississippi University, where he was active in the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. His professional career spanned several years as a track supervisor and inspector for the Southern Railway and later as the Inspector of Railways for the State of Alabama. He was a member of the American Railway Bridge and Building Association, a Life Member of the American Railway Engineering Association, and a Life Member of the Roadmasters and Maintenance of Way Association of America.
Mac was a Mason and a member of the Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Mildred Smith; his parents, Hosea McCardle and Lois Wells McCardle; and his son-in-law, David Marshall McDonald. Survivors include Mac's children, Elizabeth Earl McCardle McDonald, Richard Wells McCardle, and Michael Wayne McCardle (Jie); grandchildren, Jennifer Lovett, Janie Carol Carson, John Michael McDonald, Kimberly Michelle Turner, Alexis McCardle, Benjamin Michael McCardle, Marri Helen Taylor, and Richard "Richie" Wells McCardle, Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Caiden Marie Lovett, Savannah Leigh Turner, Lochlann Marshall McDonald, and Jeremiah Lee Taylor.
The family will greet friends at a wake from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. A celebration of the life of T.W. "Mac" McCardle will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at the funeral home's chapel, followed by the graveside committal service at Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham.
