Bill was born to George and Edna Murray in Birmingham, AL. He graduated from Ensley High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University. In 1958, he began a career in the automotive aftermarket industry. After working with several corporations, Bill established Bill Murray & Associates, a manufacturers’ rep agency specializing in selling auto parts to every major automotive retailer in the country. Today, BMA remains a proud family-owned business, operated by the second and third generations of his family.
Bill had a lifelong passion for boating, whether enjoying time on Lake Logan Martin or aboard his boat, Tranquility, in Panama City Beach. Being on the water was his sanctuary. When not on the water, he loved playing golf as a member of Greystone Country Club. Above all, Bill’s greatest joy and treasure in life was his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Edna Murray; his wife of 55 years, Molly Klinner Murray; and his daughter, Cindy Crowder (Tom).
Bill is survived by his wife, Joan Rees Murray; his children, Brenda Stevens (Brian) and Bill Murray Jr. (Amy); his sister, Peggy Brett; his grandchildren, Nick Crowder (Elyse), Natalie Monroe (Russell), Carly Murray, Will Murray (Chloe), and Kate Murray; and his great-grandchildren, Piper Crowder, Peyton Crowder, and Isla Anne Murray.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Jimmie Hale Mission or Feeding Alabama.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, with a celebration of life in Bill’s honor to follow in the chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place afterward in the adjoining cemetery.
