

Bill Pitts, 60 of Vestavia Hills, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Bill was born in Alabama, and grew up in both Alabama and California. He graduated from Huffman High School and The University of Alabama. He worked with his Saginaw Pipe family for more than 25 years. Bill loved playing with his three grandsons, enjoyed Alabama football and basketball, as well as taking many family trips from as far as Alaska and Hawaii, to closely cherished places like the lake. He had too many wonderful friends to count. He took great care of his family, including his wife of 36 years, and his two daughters. Bill’s friends and family knew that they could count on him for anything that they needed. He loved teaching Sunday School and serving on the parking team at Church of the Highlands. We will miss our “Fath” deeply.
Mr. Pitts is preceded in death by his father, Larry “Papaw” Pitts; sister, Renee “Nae Nae” Pitts and father-in-law, Glenn Hammett. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Hammett Pitts; mother, Bonnie “Nana” Pitts; daughters, Dianna Michelle Pitts (O’Bryan) and Stephanie Paige Pitts; grandchildren, Trent Curtis, Malakai Pitts and Robby Curtis; brothers, Larry Pitts (Jenny) and Eddie Pitts (Trina); sisters-in-law, Terrie Spetalnick (Bennett) and Kelly Smith (Wayne); nieces and nephews, Sydney, Grant, Kendall, Tasha, Allie, Emma-Caitlin, John William, Joseph and Chloe.
The celebration of Bill’s life will be at 11am on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Church of the Highlands (Grants Mill Chapel), with visitation beginning at 10am. Inurnment will be at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Highlands.
