Gerald "Coach" C. Grogan

October 15, 1937 - March 10, 2017

Gerald "Coach" Grogan age 79 was surrounded by his family as he passed away Friday March 10, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Patricia Dooley Grogan.

He is survived by two sons, Jay (Julie) Grogan, Ben (LeAnne) Grogan; two daughters Ila (Jeff) Leadmon, Amy (Kenny) Martin; Eleven grandchildren, Joel (Sarah) Graham, Justin Grogan, Jessica Graham Goodwin (Nick), Hannah Grogan Dickey (Matt), Joshua (Kaylee) Leadmon, Grant Grogan, Claire Grogan Realmuto (Zack), Randy Martin, Jayme Leadmon, Abigail Martin; four great grandchildren, Madelynn Realmuto, Ryker Realmuto, Grayson Graham, Hazel Leadmon.

Its been said that if you choose a job you love, then you'll never work a day in your life. For Gerald Grogan, that job was coaching high school football. He always wanted to make a program better and that meant players, team, and facilities. He took pride in growing the program, building up facilities and spent countless hours sweeping floors, fertilizing, watering, and mowing grass among many other things in order to make it all look great. According to many of his former players what he really did best was to grow and build young men. More important than his win-loss record were the people he encountered during his lifetime. He loved people and never met a stranger. Mostly, he was proud of the family he and his late wife, Pat had grown and he loved them dearly. We celebrate his life and are so grateful for the love, grace, and mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Coach Gerald Grogan was a good coach and a better man. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.

Arrangements for Gerald Colvin "Coach" Grogan will be March 15, Wednesday evening viewing at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City from 5pm to 7pm. Graveside service will be Thursday March 16, 3pm at Eastaboga Baptist cemetery. The family will receive friends later that evening Thursday March 16 at Word Alive Church 122 Allendale Rd. Oxford, Al. from 4:30 to 6pm with memorial life celebration at 6pm.
