Family of Jamie,
I realize that this is quite a few years after your fathers passing, but for some reason my friendship with Jamie came to mind this Sunday so I googled him.  I knew this was the Jamie Swank I knew growing up when I saw the mentions of trips to El Paso and his military Service.  I was sure that he would serve in the military because of his family’s history of service.

Jamie and I attended Cielo Vista Elementary in El Paso in the very early 70’s.  He was a good friend.  His dad was in the military and took us to movies on the Fort Bliss base.  One memory I have was seeing the movie Battle of Britain with Jamie and his dad.  It was a good time.

Praying prayers of comfort and strength over you today.  Your dad  was a gentle giant growing up and it sounds like he was that same way the rest of his life.

What a tragic loss.  I first met Jaime when he was stationed at Ft, Lewis, Wa with the Ranger Batt.  He personified the essence of military stature:  Always the aura of command, tempered with intelligence, humor and most importantly dignity. My favorite story is when he was awarded "Soldier Of The Year".  Not one to take this too seriously, he acknowledged the presentation - but upon finding out all the benefits that went with the award, he quietly declined.  You see, this accolade just happened to coincide with the anniversary of the original Ranger landing at Normandy Beach. It was also personal because, as you know, his father was part of that landing group.  In fact his father had been in recent contact, hoping that Jaime could get leave and meet him at the ceremony planned for the veterans of that landing.  Jaime went to his 1st Sgt. and quietly asked if it would be possible for him to get leave to attend - in trade for whatever might be awarded for "Soldier Of The Year".  The Sgt. looked at him in disbelief.  No one had been aware of his connection with the very first Rangers.  The Sgt. immediately escorted him to their Cpt.'s office and briefed him on Ranger Swanks request. The Cpt. was dumbfounded. "Are you kidding me Swank?  Not only is your request approved, but you will attend as a official representative of the current Ranger Batt." (Oh, and by the way, all the "extra's for being selected Soldier Of The Year were also included).  Quietly he told me this story, almost embarrassed, but coupled with complete humility and pride.  The most important aspect for him was being able to share the coming venture with his dad.

We lost touch after "Desert Storm", but he's always been in my heart, he's always been a source of positive stories, he's always been Jaime.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  He was so proud of his family and spoke of you often.  I'm so glad he was a part of my life.

I worked with Jim at Motion Industries at AL09. I remember when we had our Christmas Party many years ago I had won a motor, and he bought it from me. He was a very kind and gentle man. God Bless the Family.

I will remember him for the sweet, quite and gentle man that he was. He had great strength and I know that he is now at peace.

Jaime was my brother's best friend growing up. He was always at our house, starting in 4th grade when he was a chubby little boy with blonde curls. I remember that my Dad was so impressed that Jamie's Dad was in the Battle of the Bulge. Jamie grew into a crazy high-schooler with the first blond afro we ever saw. In our 20's we had so much fun laughing and dancing whenever we were all home to visit El  Paso.I haven't seen him since those days. So sorry to learn the news. My condolences to his children and fiancee and siblings....I lost one of my sisters in 2005. It was tragic. I know she talked to Jamie when he was sick back then. I am praying for all of you. Grief is so hard, and yet sometimes beautiful.

I had the chance to work with Jim @ Motion Industries when he work @ the location on Alton, the main warehouse AL09 and he was so nice and a great man! Jim put up a great battle and I will miss him greatly. I will be praying for the family! God Bless!
