Martha Woodham Pierce

Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother “Tody”, sister, and friend. She is survived by her beloved husband, Neal Pierce; her children, Marley Lisenby Stephens (Blake Stephens), Bo Lisenby, and Neale Pierce Garmon; and her cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Reilly, and Tucker Stephens, and Charlee-Ann Garmon. She is also survived by her sister, Susan W. Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Allen Woodham and Martha Stone Woodham, as well as her grandson, Dalton “Sonny” Garmon.

Martha dedicated over 50 years of her life to the banking industry and made history as the first female Vice President at NewSouth Federal Savings Bank in Birmingham, Alabama. She was a trailblazer in her field and a woman of strong determination and integrity.

Outside of her career, Martha found joy in the simple and creative things in life. She loved reading, gardening, painting, cooking, traveling, and shopping. She was especially proud of writing a children’s book, a reflection of her imagination and love for storytelling.

Martha had a heart for serving others. She volunteered with the Alethia House, where she taught adult literacy and financial education classes to homeless mothers, making a lasting impact on many lives through her compassion and generosity.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Martha loved Jesus deeply and shared that love with everyone she met. She faithfully taught Sunday school to preschoolers, a role she treasured, and she had a special gift for connecting with children.

She will be remembered for her creativity, her humor, her strength, and her unwavering love for her family and others. Her legacy of kindness, faith, and perseverance will live on in all who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held at First Methodist Church of Talladega on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m.
