On Friday July 5, 2024 Tommy lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma cancer after fighting the good fight. Tommy was born in Rome GA Sept. 3, 1949. He was a graduate of East Rome High school. He received an associates degree from Floyd College (Highland College) a University of Georgia affiliate. He served in the US Army during Vietnam from 1969-1971. Tommy entered the Postal Service in 1973 as a city mail carrier in Rome, GA and he later retired as a Post Master from Rockmart, GA in 2003. After retirement, Walmart would not hire him as a greeter because he wanted to talk to too many people, so he went to work as a "meter maid" for the city of Rome.
Tommy never met a stranger and he made friends every where he went, including close friendships that he formed while he served in Vietnam. Those friendships have lasted over 50 years. He was a very active member at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church in Silver Creek, GA where he was ordained as a deacon and served in that role for many years. He loved serving in all aspects of the church. After moving to Pell City, he moved his membership to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Cropwell. Tommy just loved making a positive impact on people's lives any way he could which usually came about through his humorous personality. Tommy loved his family. He was always there to support them in any and all aspects of their lives. He was loved by many and will be truly missed.
