Today, we gather to honor the life of Angie Finney, who left us on November 30, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on April 11, 1932, Angie lived a remarkable life filled with love, service, and dedication. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Angie was born to Eula Smithhart and her father, Effrom Sunday, and she was lovingly raised by her stepmother, Lovie Sunday, alongside her siblings: Sam, William, Ollin, Douglas, Dennis, Benny, Dorthy, Maxine, and Judy. Each of them carries cherished memories of laughter, support, and the bond of family that Angie fostered throughout her life.
A devoted wife, Angie married Cecil H. Finney, and together they built a beautiful family. She was a loving mother to Carol Diane, Cecil Lamar, James Aundre, and David Ralph. Angie’s love for her children was boundless, and she dedicated herself to nurturing and guiding them, instilling values of compassion and resilience.
Angie’s commitment to her faith was evident in her lifelong dedication to the First Pentecostal Church in Pensacola, where she served her community and strengthened her spiritual family for over 75 plus years. Her unwavering faith and active participation in church life inspired many and created a lasting impact on those around her.
In addition to her service to the church, Angie dedicated 30 years of her life to working in customer service. Her friendly demeanor and genuine care for others made her a beloved figure in the community, and she touched countless lives through her work.
Angie cherished her friendships, especially her bond with her best friend, Aunt Naomi. For over 60 years, they enjoyed drinking coffee every night and watching their favorite TV shows together, sharing laughter and creating countless cherished memories.
As a grandmother and great-grandmother, Angie’s heart expanded even further. She took immense joy in her grandchildren: Cumi, Regina, Kristina, Tammy, Deeanna, Sabrina, Mark, Cynthia, Aundre’a, Amanda, Angela, Samantha, and Devan. Angie was also blessed with 32 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She was their biggest cheerleader, celebrating their achievements and comforting them in times of need.
Angie’s legacy is one of love, strength, and unity. She was a beacon of light in our lives, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear. Her spirit will forever remain in our hearts, reminding us to cherish each moment and hold our loved ones close.
As we say our goodbyes, let us remember the laughter, the stories, and the love that Angie shared with us. May we honor her memory by living our lives with the same kindness and generosity that she exemplified every day.
Rest in Peace, Dear Angie. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten. All is well.
