September 25, 1921 -
June 10, 2012
Annie Estelle White Carter
Dixie was taken home by Jesus at the age of 90 on Sunday, June 10, 2012.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard G. Carter (1995), her mother Emma Sadler White (1991) her father Lois Lee White (1964) and daughter-in-law Joyce Earnest Carter (2005).
Survivors include her sons; Richard G. Jr. (Trish), William L. (Cathy), Thomas M. (Pauline) and grandchildren Deanna, Frederick, Mary, Michael, Richard III and many great-grandchildren.
As with so many of our greatest generation, she answered the country's call during WWII and joined the Navy as a WAVE, where she, as a proud Southern woman, was given the nickname so many of us know her by, "Dixie". After WWII, she was the first dependent to go to Hawaii to join up with her husband Dick.
She was blessed with a special talent. She had the ability to play the piano not only by
reading music, but also by ear. For many years Dixie enjoyed playing gigs with a local group known as the MOPS. She was a long time member of the Warrington Baptist Church where, until her recent illness, she could be found playing for her Sunday School Department.
Funeral services will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home on New Warrington Road, Pensacola, Florida on Friday, June 15, 2012. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will commence at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Larry White officiating. Honorary pall bearers will be Warrington Baptist Church Deacons.
In lieu of Flowers, it would be Dixie's wish to have donations made to Warrington Baptist Church, Pensacola, Florida, or, as a trained dental technician who always had a soft place in her heart for children with dental problems, to have donations made to Operation Smile, which can be reached on line at www.operationsmile.org or by phone at 888-677-6453 or by mail at 6435 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA 23509 U.S.A.
