Artimissie Hawthorne Gay, 97, of Pensacola, FL, passed into her eternal reward after a brief illness, on January 7, 2021, surrounded by her children. She was born January 5, 1924 in Geneva, AL, the second of twelve children born to George W. and Nettie Register Hawthorne.
Artimissie was blessed with 50 years and 2 months of marriage to William Ray Gay at the time of his death in 1991. Their union resulted in four children whom they both adored. She was an avid knitter and quilter, loved cards and word games, but most of all she loved witnessing to others about her beloved Lord and Saviour through her words and deeds. She was a Sunday School teacher and youth leader in her lifetime. She loved her children, grandchildren and entire family greatly and prayed often for them all.
In addition to her parents, Artimissie was preceded in death by her husband, William R Gay, her son Gerald David Gay, siblings Delsie Morris, Homer Hawthorne, Comer Hawthorne, Coy Hawthorne, Myrtle Pippins, Floyd Hawthorne, Lloyd Hawthorne, and Nancy Schrader.
She is survived by her children, Mickey (Thelma) Gay of Live Oak, FL, Paula Silcox of Pensacola, FL, Janet (Earl) Wendt of Pace, FL and daughter-in-law Sheila Gay of Jacksonville, FL, 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, siblings Nonie Roberts, Donie Brown and Ronnie Hawthorne.
Pallbearers include her grandchildren:
Steve Gay, Vickie Shiver, Lisa Chartier, William Wendt, Tony Silcox, Delisha Gay and Jennifer Saint.
Visitation and Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home at 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola, FL. Family will gather from 12-1 p.m.; they will receive friends from 1-2 pm with funeral to follow at 2 p.m.
