Barry Paul Blackwell

Barry Paul Blackwell passed away peacefully in his sleep in Landstuhl, Germany on March 5th 2017. He was born in Pensacola, Florida on March 26, 1969. He is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Charles E and Kathleen Blackwell of Covington County, Alabama and Thames and Irma Jernigan of Pensacola, Florida, as well as his sister Anna Layne Merritt of Pensacola. Barry is survived by his loving wife, Wendy Blackwell, Pensacola, FL, his son Devin Blackwell, Tallahassee, FL, father Charlie Blackwell Pensacola, FL, and mother Judith Jernigan, Bradenton, FL, as well as his three sisters: Sheree Stewart (husband Bob) Cantonment, FL, Linda Bentley (husband David) Chicago, IL, and his younger sister Merry K. McCrea (Katie) of Gulf Breeze, FL. Barry was known as ¨PaPa¨ to their grandson, Brody Wade Johnson, and he had numerous nieces and nephews. Prior to leaving for Germany, Barry enjoyed employment at West Florida Hospital for 24 years where he was loved and respected by many co-workers and friends. He and his dad, Charlie created many memories together, especially watching Alabama football games. Barry loved to cook and always prepared a great meal. Also, music was one of his biggest passions from a young age. He loved playing in a band and enjoyed music for the meaning of the lyrics, as well as the sound and the musical artist. He grew up in Olive Baptist Church and graduated from Woodham High School and Pensacola State College, where he made many long time friends. With an engaging smile and piercing ¨baby blue” eyes, Barry was easily loved by many and he loved them back. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday March 21, 2017 from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel. An additional visitation will be held Wednesday March 22, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at Olive Baptist Church Main Sanctuary with a service immediately following at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Bayview Memorial Park.
