
Catherine Nerren Flake was the daughter of Henrietta Miller Nerren and Frank Newton Nerren. She was born March 25, 1926 in Alabama. Three brothers preceded her in death, Charles, Frank (Togie), and James Nerren.
She was married to the late John R. Flake for 45 years.
Mrs. Flake is survived by three daughters, Becky Hewitt of Pensacola, Karen Rothe (Hal) of Madison, Miss., Susan Wilson (Murdock) of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandsons, Tim Rothe (Tammy) of Pensacola, Evan Hewitt of Phoenix, Ariz., John Rothe (Dani) of Bloomsburg, PA., Jacob Wilson of Raleigh, N.C.; a granddaughter Kim Hewitt of Pensacola; and a great-granddaughter, Phelon of Pensacola; a sister, Peggy Grisamore (Frank) of Memphis, Tenn.; numerous nieces and nephews; and devoted friends, Shannon Ash and Trudy Laird.
She was excited to recently add two step-great- grandsons, Dylan and Dustin through Tim's marriage.
Mrs. Flake was a talented seamstress and cook, who also enjoyed crocheting and working in her garden throughout her 88 years of life.
She loved her years working as a Parent Educator at Bellview Elementary. She was delighted to be the "grandmother" of the whole school. She was an enthusiastic member of the Bunco Babes and loved the ladies in that group.
The family wishes to thank her doctor, Stephen Willis, the nurses, doctors, and staff of West Florida Hospital and Covenant Hospice for their loving care during her brief illness.
The family welcomes flowers or donations to the library at Bellview Elementary School in memory of Mrs. Flake.
The visitation was held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 4pm to 6pm. The graveside service was held on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 2pm at Barrancas National Cemetery. Oak Lawn Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
