Ruth, So sorry to learn about Charlie.  What a sorrowful way to connect with
you again after 66 years!!!  My memories of you and he are from your wedding
day when I was your bridesmaid!  Our husbands' careers were so diverse that
we never were even near each other.  However, thought of you many times.
I sincerely believe that we will all be together some day soon and will catch up

The Knapp family was very special to our Odell family.  We got reacquinted in 1967 when we moved to Ft Ord, California.  Many fond memories.  Vacationing together at Ft Hunter Ligget.  Also going to Santa Cruz beach and boardwalk.  I enjoyed relaxing with dad's close buddy Charlie.  I knew Carol from high school real well.  My late brother, John, enjoyed baseball with Bobby and Lee.  Going to the baseball games to Candlestick Park was fun for us as well.  After we moved off Ft Ord, the Knapps lived in Marina, not too far from where we did.  It's hard to see our parents depart from this world.  Praying for Ruth and the entire family during this difficult time.  Lots of love.

Ruth, I am so very to hear about Charlie.  Bud and I are in Panama City at our daughter's until tomorrow or we would have been with you today.  You know how much we think of you and Charlie. We likes teasing one another at Bowling.  He will be missed.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family are at this time. We are so sorry.  Hugs, Pat and Bud

Lt Col Charles L. Knapp, or Uncle Leland as he was known to his nieces and nephews, was a man of great integrity and worthy of respect. Humble about his accomplishments, yet proud of his service to the nation, he had a calm, generous, joyful and strong personality. He was an incredibly devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Every memory of Uncle Leland and Aunt Ruth brings a smile. We are grateful and honored he was our Uncle.

The USMA Class of 1951 says farewell to Charlie Knapp, one of its beloved members.  "We follow close order behind you"  Our thoughts and prayers are with Ruth and the family.

Fond fond memories of my visits to the Knapp household when our families shared military obligations. One thing you could always count on was Col. Knapps deep but warm voice warmly greeting you, relaxed in his easy chair, cigar in hand. I remember thinking my friend Nancy had a "cool" dad. Many years later I was so happy to revisit him at the wedding of his Grandaughter. The years had not changed his friendly demeanor and I am so saddened for your loss. I send much love and condolences to the entire Knapp family.

Sincere condolences to the Knapp Family from the Virginia Odells. Sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. I am now reminiscing of our families sharing times at Ft. Ord, California, hanging out, playing ball with Bobby and Lee, going to Fitch Jr. High and Seaside High. But most of all I remember the numerous road trips to Candlestick Park to see the SF Giants play. Willie Mays and Willie McCovey. We would all pile in the car. It was a Chrysler with automatic windows. I loved the way Colonel Knapp would say my Dad's nickname. "Hey Digger" he said in his deep voice. I can smell the cigar smoke now! Charlie Knapp - a good man, a good military man, a good husband, a good Dad a good role model and a good guy! Don't you feel like you know him already? So sorry to see you go. ~ Grant Odell

Col. Knapp was such a great guy!  My memories are from our school days on Ft. Ord when Nancy would have us all to her house.   He never seemed to mind.  And what a life...to celebrate with his great grandkids!   Those memories will live on in all of you.  God Bless.   Debi & Steve

Newcomers,Bowling 4/10/09 at Cordova Lanes. Being President, I attended all interest groups. I am not a bowler, but Charlie was very encouraging with good "gentle" suggestions for me. I did improve my second game, but never reached 100.  You will be missed Charlie.  My thoughts and prayers are with you Ruth and your family.

My Grandpa had a wonderful life.  Retired at a pretty young age, traveled everywhere, and had grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He has lived a life that many dream to live.  Grandpa may have accomplished everything he set out to do in life.  You are an inspiration, Grandpa.  I will miss you. Love Annalee
