Dennis B. Dickerson, Sr. was born in Chicago, Illinois, to the union of the late Hazel and James Dickerson. He was 77 years old at the time of his death. After battling several years with his health, on November 7, 2020, Dennis quietly stepped from this life into the next.
Dennis was educated in both the Catholic and Public school systems in Chicago, Illinois. Before becoming a proud member of the United States Air Force, traveling the world for 26 years before being honorable discharged as Master Sergeant.
After his service in the military, he traveled back overseas working for Sikorsky Industries for a number of years.
Upon his return to the states, he worked for the City of Pensacola; Fire and Rescue as a dispatcher for 12 years, completing his service for the betterment of mankind.
He was an avid bowler and enjoyed sports, watching baseball and NASCAR racing, football and basketball.
He was also vocally inclined using his voice in bands and in the choir at church. One of his favorite songs was “Jesus will fix it”.
Dennis leaves to cherish his memory; his devoted daughter, Rita Spencer of Pensacola, Florida; his companion and caretaker, his son, Dennis Jr of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren, LaNeice Dickerson-Dees, Garrett Dickerson, Brandon Knight (Brooke), Byron Knight, 7 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends; special to his heart, Shereatha Dickerson and Vicki Sawyer Lindo.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Barrancas National Cemetery with Dr. Joseph Marshall officiating. The funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 1:00 p.m.
