Dimitrios had many nicknames "Mitch" to friends, "Buddy" to family, and "Golden Greek" at work. He was born to John and Louise Nee Stamatelos at the old Sacred Heart Hospital. He grew up in North Hill and graduated from Riverside Military Academy in 1945. A few months later, he was drafted and the Army sent him “overseas” to Ft. Dix New Jersey. One of the highlights was ringing in the New Year in Times Square. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned home and married Lillian Wright. He went through apprentice school at N.A.S. to become an aircraft mechanic and inspector.
In his retirement years he enjoyed traveling, watching cowboy movies, reading, discussing politics, history and shooting the breeze.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lil; and sisters: Anita Miklas and Englezo Leake.
Dimitrios is survived by children: John (Connie) Stamatelos, Tom Stamatelos, and Melody (Richard)Tillman; grandchildren: Thea Stamatelos, John Stamatelos Jr., and Alexander Tillman; great-grandchildren: Tia and Kaylaigh Stamatelos. We will miss his humor and vast knowledge of Pensacola history.
Please join us in celebration of his life on January 17, 2026 at Lili Marlene’s inside Seville Quarter from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
