

Doris was born on October 12th of 1931 in Bellingham, Washington to the late Roscoe and Clara (Anderson) Byers. She graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor’s in Education and the University of West Florida with a Master’s in Education.
She met her husband Ross Lewis while he was stationed at Whidbey Island in 1953. They were married on November 11th, 1955 in Pensacola, FL. They had two children, Randy Lewis (1959) and Kathleen Brown (1961).
In 60 years of marriage, they built their own home in Beulah, raised Randy and Kathleen, sailed the seas with their dog Chilyn, taught boating classes, hosted family Thanksgivings, created a bird sanctuary on their farm, grew and sold Christmas trees, and taught their grandchildren to love the stars.
Doris worked as a schoolteacher for 30 years, teaching 2nd and 3rd grades as well as music. She was also a long-time faithful member at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection where she played piano, organ, and led the choir. She was also a member of the Audubon Society.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ross; her father and mother, her sister Barbara; her sister-in-law Nadine (and husband Lee), and her daughter, Kathleen Brown.
She is survived by her son, Randy (and wife Vicki) Lewis; her granddaughter, Danielle Brown; her grandson, Derek (and wife Dani) Brown, her grandson, Timothy (and wife Brandi) Hadden; her great-granddaughter and great-grandson, Grace and Jude Brown; and her great-granddaughters Kinzleigh, Emmalyn, and Abigail Hadden; and her nieces, Marcia Carter and Julie Benson.

A funeral service will occur Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM, 6305 N Blue Angel Pkwy, Pensacola, FL 32526. A committal will occur Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Rd, Pensacola, FL 32508.
