Born on May 1, 1969, in Bethesda, Maryland, Edward was the son of the late Trinidad “Eddie” and Teresa Ilano. He was a lifelong resident of Pensacola, where he graduated from Pensacola High School in 1987. He built a life grounded in deep and meaningful connections with his family, friends, and colleagues.
Edward will be remembered for his kind heart, sharp intelligence, and unmistakable sense of humor. He had a natural gift for making people laugh and bringing joy to those around him. He enjoyed fishing, gaming, art, and was a devoted Washington Redskins fan. He also loved trivia, often demonstrated by watching countless episodes of Jeopardy! with his sisters. His appreciation for history, nature, and music was reflected in the documentaries he enjoyed.
Edward began his career as a pharmacy technician in 1987 at City Drugs in Pensacola under the mentorship of Gerald Dominy, whom he loved like a father. Over the years, he worked at Baptist Hospital, Gulf Coast Medical, and Sunscript. He spent the last 12 years of his career at Select Specialty Hospital, where he formed lasting friendships and often referred to his coworkers as his “other family.” Each of them carries a story of Edward that can bring both laughter and tears.
He shared his father’s passion for cooking and found great joy in preparing meals for those he loved. Whether in the kitchen, out on the water fishing, or relaxing at the beach, Edward embraced life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed wearing Hawaiian Island Creations T-shirts, inspired by their laid-back motto, “Enjoy the Ride”—a philosophy he truly lived by.
Music was a central part of Edward’s life. He loved playing guitar and spent many late nights jamming with friends at “Dave’s Shop.” He especially enjoyed ’80s alternative music and attending concerts. He often played guitar for his daughter, nieces, and nephews, encouraging them to sing along and creating memories they will cherish forever.
His daughter, Haydn, was the center of his world. In her, he passed on his vibrant personality, playful spirit, and strong character—qualities that will guide her throughout her life. He was a devoted father, and their bond was truly special. His heart grew even fuller with the arrival of his granddaughter, Ellis, who lovingly called him “Papa,” a name he treasured deeply.
Edward is survived by his beloved daughter, Haydn Ilano (Michael Artiola); his grandchildren, Ellis and Anthony; and his siblings: Tim (Chris-Ann), Monica (Jim), Angelo (Tina), Rita (Ed), and Kris, along with many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Trinidad “Eddie” and Teresa Ilano. It brings comfort to know that they welcomed him into Heaven with open arms.
Edward’s legacy is one of love, laughter, music, and unwavering devotion to family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
