I prepared Mr. and Mrs. Browns taxes for many years. I always looked forward to their appointments. They were one of my favorite clients. Mr. Brown was a very special person and will be missed by everyone who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with Sadie and the whole family.

He always saw the good in people and had a heart of gold. We will miss you in a greatly.

Granny and Grampa accepted me into their family from the very beginning, as did the rest of this wonderful family. I thought to myself either their standards for friends are very low, or their hearts are full of love. I soon learned that it was because their hearts were full of love. I never heard an angry word pass Grampa's lips. He will be terribly missed by all who knew him.
Here is a very brief summary of Grampa's service in World War II:
He joined the Army on November 10th, 1943, and became a member of the 83rd Infantry Division, 331st Infantry Regiment and landed at Normandy Beach just 6 days after D-Day. The unit's Radioman was killed by a sniper, and his LT Kruze asked if he would now carry the radio. Without hesitation, Grampa said "yes sir"! He later had his antenna shot off by a German sniper, but Grampa continued to carry the radio, determined to do what was asked of him. 
The 83rd forced the Germans from France, liberating cities such as Brest, St.Malo (Grampa celebrated his 19th Birthday here), Nantes, Luxembourg (instead of taking R&R here, he instead chose to spend this relaxation time attending a radio school for the SCR300 and Walkie Talkie), then on to Paris, joined up with Patton's Army, and moved into Gey, Germany on December 10th, 1944 (this was just prior to the Battle of the Bulge). Gey was a strategic German town located at the outskirts of the Huertgen Forest, and extremely important to the German's defensive line, being well fortified with heavy machine guns inside pillboxes and bunkers, tin cans attached to barbed wire to warn of attacks, roadblocks, mined roads, tanks, artillery, booby traps, every house was an arsenal of ammunition. Dead soldiers and animals were scattered about in the surrounding fields and streets. Add to this the ice cold freezing temperatures and the rain-soaked soldiers suffering with trench-foot, sleeping on the frozen ground, and trying to find protection by digging foxholes in the frozen ground. If you have watched the HBO series "Brothers in Arms", then you have seen what Grampa was experiencing. 
The day Grampa was wounded, he was on a dirt airfield by the Huertgen Forest, backed up by friendly tanks, and facing a German tank which came out of the woods in front of him. The first German tank round missed, but he never heard the second shot. The next thing he remembered was laying on the hood of a jeep with tank shrapnel lodged in his head. This was the beginning of Grampa's journey back home where he eventually met and married his wife, Sadie. 
We will deeply miss our very own WWII hero, and I wish I could hear his story just one more time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Brown
several years ago and he and his wife treated me like family. I know he was loved and respected by all his family and
I would like to tell each and everyone of them how sorry I am for their loss but mostly how blessed you were to have him as a husband, father and grandfather.God be with you at this time.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Mr. Brown was a charter member of my masonic lodge (Ferry Pass #348). I met him a few times while at lodge. He was a good man.

You were the best grandfather ever.  The world lost such an amazing person and hero. I can only hope that the memories we made along the way will help me in my times of sadness.  Give mom a kiss for me and I will see you both again one day.  Loving and missing you so much.

Allways let me sit in the gatehouse with him while I waited on Nelson to come down, even though he really wasn't suppose to. Kind and gentle man. R.I.P.
