George James Bush (82) of Pensacola FL passed away on May 20, 2025. He was born on March 4, 1943, at home in Barren Co. KY to Clovis Wendell and Eula Garnett Bush. He was a devoted husband to Joan (Ducharme) Bush for 61 years and a loving father to five children, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
George was hard-working and dedicated. Serving 22 1/2 years in the US Navy onboard ships as a Machinist's Mate, he was known for his ability to fix absolutely everything. He served a few years ashore recruiting future sailors. He retired in 1983 as a Master Chief Petty Officer.
George enjoyed maintaining equipment in proper operating condition and fixing "broke stuff". Not one to “lollygag", waste time or "burn daylight", he was always busy. A natural teacher, he showed others how to repair things instead of replacing them. His ability to make the most of little was his superpower.
George’s sense of humor and youthful grin attracted others to him. His honesty, integrity, kindness, and generosity, left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Despite his immense responsibilities, he always made time for his family and placed them first. When not at sea, George was home taking care of our family and home. He didn’t have traditional hobbies like sports or hunting, but he always had a car, motorcycle, or mower to “tinker on”.
He is survived by devoted wife Joan, children Ed Jordan (Audrey), Ron Jordan (Kim), Tim Jordan (Jill), Lynnell (Bush) Derryberry (Dwayne), and Brad Bush (Robin), grandchildren James, Brian, Jessica, Jak, Katelyn, Austin, Henry and Jean, great-grandchildren Emma, Paul, Landon, Nova, Asher, Layle and Kainen.
He is also survived by his sister Dorothy and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Delano and sister Burnell.
A celebration of life will be held near Nashville TN in the next few months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to George's heart.
We find comfort in knowing that George's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and memories we will cherish forever.
