George Franklyn Harter

George Franklyn Harter, 83, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 in Pensacola, Florida.A Celebration of Life will be Monday, December 1, 2014 at 11 AM at Perdido Bay United Methodist Church with Pastor Darren McClellan officiating. George was born in Endicott, New York on August 23, 1931. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines and is a survivor of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in the Korean War as well having served in Viet Nam. He was awarded the Silver Star, Navy Medal of Commendation (V) and the Purple Heart. George served at various duty posts including in the Honor Guard at the White House, Washington, D.C., Japan, Cuba and retired with the rank of First Sergeant.He married Ann Greenlaw Bernard August 20, 2011.George lived a varied and interesting life. He once danced with a young Elizabeth Taylor and drove ingénue Debbie Reynolds from one theater to another between performances. He and first wife, Billie, sold their home, bought a boat and cruised the eastern seaboard, Gulf Coast and Caribbean for four years. He was a member of Grand Lagoon Yacht Club and Friends of Big Lagoon. George loved his children, music, woodworking and reading.George is preceded in death by his parents, Genivieve and Ernest Harter, four sisters and his first wife, Billie Jean Harter nee Sapaugh.George is survived by one sister, Rosemary, his wife Ann, daughter Katherine Margaret Bourgeois (Daniel), sons George Michael (Karen Katar), Phillip Warren, David Mark (Eugene Harrell), seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.The family would like to thank Covenant Hospice, especially Sylvia, Kim, Darlene, Rev.
