1916-2016
Hazel Luverne Coleman Poulsen went home to be with our precious Lord on November 4, 2016. She was born in Canoe, AL on November 22, 1916 and is preceded in death by her parents Cornelious and Harriet Coleman; her brothers - Henry, Raymond, Jack, Archie, & CJ; her sisters - Lizzie, Elma, Myrtle, Ethel, & Irene; her husband Frank; daughters - Shirley, Susie, & Sherri. She is survived by her daughter Sandra; grandchildren - Charles, Gina, L.J. (Mary), Kevin, Brendan & Erin, and her great-grandchildren Baylee & Jacob.
Hazel lived a life devoted to God and others. She loved her family and her church very much. She was a schoolteacher most of her life. Even after she retired, she volunteered at the schools. She loved to serve, go for walks, and work in her gardens. Whatever she did, she worked hard and gave it her best. She loved Jesus and served faithfully in her church, teaching Sunday School, volunteering for VBS, and singing in the Senior Choir, all until she was in her mid-90s. She was starter member of Ensley First Baptist Church until the mid-1990's, and has been a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church ever since.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 9, 2016 at 10am at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, 1985 W. 9 Mile Road, Pastor Pat Mobley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior, at 9am.
Thank you to Bobbie, Joan, Effie, Zena, Georgianne, Rita, Sandra, Melinda, Kirk & Kathy, Ken Rigby, deacons & staff of Hillcrest, Uncle Glenn, Sarah & Robert, Bro. John Stacey, and everyone else who loved her, helped her, asked about her, and checked on her. While I miss her terribly, I rejoice knowing that I will see her again and she is healed, happy, and eternally with our Lord. An extra special thanks to Candace S., her Kindred Home Health Care nurse these last several months at home, who treated her with such tenderness, kindness, and genuine concern and love. Thank you all.
