James graduated from McCarthy High School and later attended college in Orlando. He was a retired Lieutenant Commander and pilot for the US Navy and served in Vietnam. For several years, he was a substitute teacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Margaret Young, and his brother, Jerry Young. He is survived by his loving wife, Felicia Young of Pensacola, FL; his children: Steven W. Young of Tallahassee, FL, Jennifer E. Murrey (Carlton) of Mills River, NC; his sister, Susan Cullum (Lou) of Burleson, TX; his stepchildren: Karla Lipham of Pass Christian, MS, Angela Sunday of Pensacola, FL, Kenny Tucker of Beulah, FL; 8 grandchildren; and ex-wives: Mary McCarty of Hendersonville, NC and Katherine Young of Tallahassee, FL.
A visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at St. Luke United Methodist Church with memorial services following at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
