“NANA”
1941 – 2012
Our loving mother has slipped into her new and peaceful life with her Heavenly Father on April 23, 2012. She was 70 years old.
Jean was born in Brooklyn, New York and lived there until she was 25. She was a very devoted Roman Catholic. Jean began working for Branniff Airlines where she extensively traveled the world. While living in New York City, she met a handsome sailor and future husband of 42 years. She married Glenn Darling and moved to Pensacola in 1968, where she resided and started a family while never losing her thick Yankee accent. Jean was a stay at home mother of three until she returned to the work force in retail management and became known as “Jean-Jean the leather Queen”. After retirement Jean took pleasure in spending family time with her grandchildren at the pool or taking road trips in the motor home looking for new and exciting places to shop. She loved handbags and jewelry. Jean had an unmistakable laugh and sense of humor that was all her own. She loved her Bernina sewing machine and crocheting. She would crochet afghans for Hospice or anyone that needed one. Thrift shopping, treasure hunting and collecting were some of her favorite past times and she always loved a bargain. Her health was a struggle but she managed it with her sense of humor. We know in Heaven that she is sitting with her cup of hot tea in her Lazy Boy with a fafanuse cookie, watching H&G TV and enjoying herself without the pains of growing older.
Jean Darling is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn G. Darling.
She will be greatly missed by her sons, Glenn A. Darling and Mark A. Darling (Jennifer McCann); daughter, Laura A. Darling-Morris (Todd Morris). She had three very loved grandchildren, Parker, Greenlee and Ruby; one brother, John Steinheimer and wife, Adel; and a host of nieces and nephews as well as her lifelong friend and “sister” Ulda Cartaya. Gracey has been her four legged companion for the last four years.
We love you “Mommy Dearest”. Your funny ways will be missed and there will always be a void in our family without you. Now you can dance.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Father George Taekko officiating.
Entombment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pensacola Humane Society, 5 North Q Street, Pensacola, FL 32505.
