Lewis Albert Doman Jr. was born on March 21st, 1930, to parents Lewis Albert Doman and Clara Johnson in Alton, Illinois. He was one of eleven children. Lew attended Alton High School from 1944-1948 where he played football because he loved the game. From an early age, Lew was a hard worker. He had to be because his mother died when they were young. His father helped to get him a job at Laclede Steel where he worked as an inventory clerk during his high school years. He worked there until he felt the call to serve in the armed forces. He joined the Marine Corps in November of 1951 and would serve until April of 1962. As an aviator he flew the DMZ in Korea and later went on to train pilots to fly at NAS Pensacola. He met his wife in Pensacola and got married there.
Lew would leave the Marine Corps to support and nurture an already growing family. Lew was not above continuing his education. Before enlisting he attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and Shurtleff college in Alton, Illinois. During his military service years, he attended Pensacola Junior College and the University of Maryland (long distance learning). His education would serve him well as he began a career in banking.
Lew started at the Citizens and Peoples National Bank in 1962 after his military service ended. He would work his way up the ladder to become its president. He would serve for many years until his retirement. There are too many accolades to mention regarding his accomplishments in the Pensacola community. Here are a few: Don Tristan DeLuna (1985) Board of Directors for Blue Cross and Blue Shield (Florida), member of Rotary, and so many other accomplishments.
However, his greatest accomplishment was successfully raising his family and later his blended family! Lew got a second chance at love when he met Frances JoAnn Pace. They were married on January 28, 1989. All of Lew’s children had never seen him so happy! Jo too! All of Dad’s blended family will miss him terribly!
