Born on November 17, 1924 and a native of California, Mary attended Huntington Park High School grew up in South Gate in the Los Angeles area. It was in high school that she met her soon to be husband James Alex Homyak (deceased). After Jim returned from Naval service in World War II, they married on June 30, 1945 and they both began their joint military careers - Jim as a Navy pilot and Mary Jo supporting her husband and starting a family. She raised three children: Linda, Bill, and Jimmy.
As a Navy wife she and Jim seldom lived in a location for more than 18-24 months. The couple have been stationed in Hawaii, Guam, Bremerton, Pensacola, Jacksonville, Kingsville, Lemoore, Mayport, Washington DC, San Diego, Pensacola, Lemoore and finally retiring back in Pensacola in 1974.
During the retirement years Mary volunteered in local hospice care and worked as a secretary at the Gulf Breeze Presbyterian Church in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
Mary Jo enjoyed playing tennis, golf, bridge, and enjoying the outdoors - especially walks on the beach. She was a warm, caring, and gracious lady as expressed by all who knew her.
Mary Jo is survived by her three children: daughter Linda Louise Homyak (husband John Pientka) Atlanta, Georgia, and sons William Alex Homyak (wife Meredith Sinclair) San Diego, California, and James Donald Homyak (wife Pamela Homyak) Pensacola Beach, Florida. She has one grandson: Gregory William Homyak, San Diego, California.
