Patricia Jean (Nyberg) Christoffersen was called to meet her heavenly Maker on February 18, 2021. Pat was born on June 8, 1929, to Marguerite and John Nyberg. She, along with younger sister Karin, grew up in New York City. While on vacation with girlfriends in Bermuda, she met U.S. Navy Master Chief Lester (Chris) Christoffersen. They were married June 21, 1958, and had a wonderful life together with daughters Debbie and Tracey. Upon Chris’s retirement from the Navy and subsequent employment opportunities, they moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1960, then to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1972. They purchased a home on Navy Point in Pensacola in 1977, and spent weekends there with the anticipation of moving there at retirement. Pat and Chris became full time Florida residents in 1980. They enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and taking daily walks along Bayou Grande. They loved their beach time and boating, especially when the grandchildren – Jason, Christie, Jessica, and Brittany - were around. Pat was a devoted wife, mother, and “Grandy”.
Pat lost her beloved Chris in 1998. Their beautiful home on Navy Point suffered severe damage from Hurricane Ivan in 2005, and Pat moved to another residence.
Pat suffered a massive stroke in 2007, and from then on was a resident at Consulate Health Care in Pensacola. For 14 years she roamed the halls in her wheelchair, getting her coffee and visiting. She was affectionately known by the residents and staff as the “Money, Money” lady. Karin was constantly at her side and arranging schedules for their friends from church and Pat’s water aerobics classmates to visit. Though Pat lost her ability to form words after the stroke, Karin was often able to elicit words and phrases from her by singing songs from their childhood summer camp days. Pat lost her beloved sister and best friend in 2012.
Pat is survived by daughters Debbie (Bill) and Tracey (John), and grandchildren Jason, Christie, Jessica, and Brittany, and great grandchildren Braden, Sariyah, and Jashone.
The family would like to thank the staff members at Consulate who served Pat the last 14 years. We would particularly like to thank Debra and Beth who were so compassionate with their advice and guidance and making special allowances for the family the last month of Pat’s life. Nicole in Social Services was amazing as she arranged for the family’s daily visits. Juan went over and above the call of duty as a speech therapist. Nurses Kelly and Brittany were true angels of mercy with their tender care, even stopping by to visit on days when Pat was not assigned to them as a patient. To Covenant Hospice personnel, nurse Amy and chaplain Chip, thank you for you expertise, professionalism, and compassion during this very difficult time. Your service to us was immeasurable. There were numerous other nurses and aides who tended to Pat with care and kindness over the years, and we thank you all.
