

Updike, Patricia Grace, age 74 of Pace, passed on June 20,2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Lester W. and Grace J. Finch; she was survived by her brother David R. and his wife Susan P. Finch; her two daughters Elisa L. Goad and her husband Michael T. Goad of California and Kelli M. Mechler of Pace, FL; grandchildren Angel C. Mohler and Triniti R. Goad; her daughter-in-law LouAnne Updike and her son Skyler Updike. Her funeral services will be held at Immanual Baptist, Pace, FL, in the worship center on July 10, 2021.
The viewing is at 11AM and the service is at noon. Her burial will be at a private ceremony at Fort Barrancas on July 12, 2021 at 9:30AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Life Options clinic, Pace, FL or Immanual Baptist church, Pace, FL.
Pat grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where she met Robert Mechler. They moved to Chattanooga to attend Tennessee Temple where they had 2 daughters, Elisa and Kelli. Pat attended Bellevue Baptist Church and was a kindergarten teacher for many years, before moving to Pace, FL in 1981. In 1985 she met Jerry Updike and they were married in 1987. They traveled to Australia, England, Israel, Mexico, and most of the Caribbean.
Pat enjoyed life in the forms of travel, film and television, teaching, arts/crafts, and helping others. If she wasn’t traveling herself, she was planning and encouraging others to travel. Superman was her favorite character and wrote fan fiction centered around the tv series Louis and Clark. She was awarded ‘Best New Writer’ through her Superman Club (worldwide) in the 90’s. For a very long period of time, she loved making flower arrangements and moved into wedding flower arrangements. She loved children and volunteered at Life Options clinic. Everyone thought she was hilarious and enjoyed her wild tales!
