

Robert joined the United States Navy at 17 years of age. He spent four years in the Navy and attained the rate of Quartermaster-Signalman First Class and became UDT qualified. After the Navy, Robert earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Once again, Robert decided to serve his country and attended the Navy Officer Candidate School where he became a Commissioned Officer reaching the rank of Lieutenant. While in Vietnam, with less than two months remaining of his tour, his leg was amputated below the knee following a wound sustained while serving in the Navy.
Robert married Kim Hoa Kay on March 12th, 1975. Kim lost her battle with cancer only eight months prior to Robert’s passing.
Robert is survived by his children, Georgiane Kay (Carmel Cheney), Manya Kay Ondriska (Joseph Langlois), Timandra Kay Mador (George Mador), Deborah Barton Koford (Chris Koford), Chi Kim Thi Nguyen (Tam Minh Le), Michael Kay, late Andrea Kim Kay, Christina Kay Tuttle, Cathy Kay, George Andrew Kay (Sabrina Mendoza Santos Kay); grandchildren, Autumn Ondriska Squire, Miranda Danielle Kay Centrone (Stephen Samuel Centrone), James Austin Langlois, Claire Koford, Abigail Koford, Andrew Minh Le, Quinn Thomas Reale, Skylar Santos Kay, Matthew Peter Tuttle, and Christian Andrew Kay.
A visitation for Robert will be held on Thursday, July 30th, 2020 from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, Pensacola, FL 32506. Following visitation, funeral services will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, FL 32508.
