Sadie Juanita Abercrombie, "Nita", gifted the earth with her presence March 20, 1927 to Dora and Leavy Register in Lumberton NC. Weighing only 2 pounds, she quickly exhibited her zest for life and fought the odds of survival. Her mother did not let her start school until she was 7 as she was so much smaller than her peers. Nita quickly caught up and eventually graduated from Pineland Junior College.
Life eventually brought her to Pensacola FL. She worked at the Courthouse excelling in photostat work, which eventually became Xeroxing. After she met the love of her life, our father, Ray C Abercrombie she became the quintessential wife and eventually a stay at home Mom. Together they successfully raised 5 children, sons, Ronald, Richard (Mary) and daughters Anita (Joe), Rita (Terry) and Julie (Dan). She became a beloved grand and great grandmother.
Mother, stayed active in her church, Warrington Baptist, until her health no longer allowed her to attend. On any given church activity, you could find her in the kitchen helping to cook and serve for many events, including her favorite, Vacation Bible School. Mom was always active in the PTA and any activity her children pursued.
In her precious spare time you could find her at Circle Bowling Alley where she was a league leader with outstanding scores. She loved to bowl and did so until she was 86.
In her younger years we all had memories of her dressing up for many dances and events she attended with our father. She was always the belle of the ball. One of her fondest memories was the year she was crowned the Queen of the Kavaliers.
Mother loved her children dearly and made many sacrifices to see they always had what they needed and enrolled them in every music program and sport possible. Dinner was on the table every day at 4:30 where we all broke bread together. She was the best cook and we all have memories of her wonderful recipes.
After moving from her Warrington home, she lived at Carpenters Creek Assisted Living Facility for many years and her final residence was Haven of Our Lady of Peace where she received the most wonderful care from staff and eventually from Vitas hospice.
Mother will be missed by us all who were blessed by having her in our lives. We find sadness in no longer having an older generation with us, however, our parents spirit lives on in us and we all have a pocket full of memories to last our lifetime.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 04, 2019 at Bayview Memorial Park, 3351 Scenic Highway.
