

Tom was born October 10, 1930 in Selbyville, De. Where he lived and attended school until 1948 when he joined the Navy. He served for 22 years which included two tours in Vietnam. His primary job was Aircraft Electrician and he worked on both helicopters and airplanes. After retiring from the Navy he began working at NAS NARF as an Aircraft Electrician Supervisor until retirement in 1993. He was active in the Hadji Shrine Gold Wing Unit and the Masonic Lodge.
Tom was married to Virginia Frances Lloyd from 1953 until her death in 1993. They had five children. In 1995 he married Sammye Vainosky of Jacjsonville. He is survived by his wife Sammye, his three daughters Janet York, (Doug), Karen Ciampini (Gene), Joyce Edwards (Clark), his step-children Wayne Vainosky and Diane Swindell (Mark), and his sister-in-law Gladys Long. His grand-children are Julia Fowler (Andrew), Leah, Jordan, and Nolan Ciampini, Jenny, Jessica and Josh Long, Maya and Jake Edwards, Anthony and Megan Vainosky and Christopher Yuhas. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, his infant son Richard, son Thomas, Jr., his brother Wm. F. Long and sister Louise Everett.
Tom’s recreational hobby was ball room dancing. For 22 years, it was his passion, Tom truly wanted to teach the world to dance. They traveled throughout the southeast to follow their favorite band.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00pm on Tuesday February 27, 2018 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. The service will begin at 12:00 pm. Internment will immediately follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
