She was born in Newry, South Carolina on September 13, 1940 to John and Mae Gaillard. After graduating from Seneca High School, Valerie attended Lander College, receiving a degree in Physical Education and English. She married Jerry D. Lazenby in 1962.
Valerie is survived by her husband, Jerry D. Lazenby; son, Michael; daughter, Dana and husband Bradley Neely; brother, Dana Gaillard; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date at Bethany United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas.
