William "Bill" Chester Birtley, born June 27, 1931, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 9, 1923, at the age of 91. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Frederick & Ethel Mae Birtley, the fifth of seven children. The family moved to Pensacola in the early 50’s where Bill started attending Pensacola First Church of the Nazarene. He joined the Army in 1952 and served in Korea during the Korean War as a Telephone Lineman.
Bill returned to Pensacola, went to work for Chemstrand Nylon Plant (Monsanto, now Solutia) after his discharge from the Army. He retired from Monsanto in the mid 80’s and then ventured into many things. He painted homes, ran the Nazarene Campgrounds for the Mississippi District and helped his son-in-law in his Electrical business. He was very active in his church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He served on the local church board and was very active in all aspects of the church, especially working with the children. His devotion to his Savior, Jesus Christ, was evident in every aspect of his life.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie, his parents, Fred and Ethel, his 6 siblings, Grace, Joe, Edna, Fred, Joan and Tommy, his son-in-law, Paul and daughter-in-law, Meloni.
He is survived by his four children, Melody (Acie) Perry, Linda McCracken, William Billy Birtley and Sharon (Ron) Armstrong, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

A visitation for Bill will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, 3351 Scenic Highway 90e, Pensacola, FL 32503, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
