William J. Morley, 88, went to the Lord on 13 November, 2011 while receiving loving Covenant Hospice care in Bay Breeze Nursing and Retirement Center. Bill was born December 8, 1922 in St. Louis. As a boy, Bill lived near the St. Louis Zoo which he would visit often, where he developed his love of animals and future lifetime career as a Veterinarian. After high school in St. Louis, Bill attended Texas A&M University where he graduated with honors with a veterinary degree. He then entered the US Army Vet Corps where he faithfully served for the next 24 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Among Bill’s numerous assignments were tour-of-duties in Camp Kokura, Japan; Fort Campbell, Ky; Governor’s Island, New2 York City; Nurnberg, Germany (where his office was in the Palace of Justice, site of the famous Nurnberg trials); and Fort Bliss, Texas. Bill received numerous awards, medals and commendations throughout his military career, including a personnel letter of appreciation from Maj, General Richard Cassidy, Commander or the Army Veterinarian Corp. After his retirement from the Army Bill worked as a small animal veterinarian for several years in El Paso, Texas
While serving in Fort Campbell, Bill met the love of his life, Theresa Boden Crawford of Nashville, Tennessee. They married and enjoyed many happy years together. They enjoyed traveling around the world, visiting their children and grandchildren, and attending all the functions and activities associated with a military career and later as a private veterinarian. They loved animals and had several spoiled cats and dogs throughout the years. While living in New York City they were members of the Marble Collegiate Church where Norman Vincent Peale was the minister. They loved going out to dinner and plays, and were both excellent bridge players.
After his wife’s death and when his health began to fail. He came to live with his daughter Carol in Navarre, Florida until his health required his moving to Bay Breeze Retirement Center, where he enjoyed his music, bingo games, going out to dinner with his family and the wonderful warm care he received from the Bay Breeze staff.
Survivors include two daughters, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. A private service will be held for family at Barrancas National Cemetery. Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
